Getting Started
Here is a list of the areas you should read about or brush up on:
- Basic electronics (Electrical theory & electronic components)
- Mechanical design
- Computer programming
- HAM (Amateur) Radio
Some books will cover more than one of these topics. Also, for most people it's better to learn as you go. While you're reading and learning, you should also order a few basic items that you can use to help you learn (shop around!):
- Anti-Static wrist-band
- Anti-Static mat (probably optional)
- Breadboard with terminals (as big as you can afford, I got a 'medium' sized board from All Electronics for a great price)
- AWG 22 Wire (multi-color pre-formed jumper wires are best for breadboards)
- LEDs and/or LED Digits
- Assortment of resistors (1/4 Watt is ok)
- Batteries (Rechargeable are best, but alkaline are ok if they are on sale)
- 4 Battery Plastic Holder (Can get this from Radioshack or order online elsewhere)
